In India, there is a custom that the parents of the girl have to bear all the expenses of their daughter's wedding. The families from the poverty line are unable to afford such expenses. So, the government has started this scheme which mainly operates with the name of 'Kalyana luxmi' for the minorities below the poverty line and 'Shaadi Mubarak for the Muslim community brides to obstruct child marriages that effect by poverty. Though the names are different the functions of these schemes are the same. The scheme's purpose is to encourage the parents who are not in the position to get their daughters married by rendering one-time financial help.

Eligibility criteria for Kalyana Lakshmi scheme

• The individual should belong to the minor communities or should fall under the category of poverty.

• The girl must be a resident of Telangana

• The unmarried girl should be completed 18 years of age at the time of marriage

• The total income of the girl's parents should be below Rs. 2 lakhs per annum.

Documents needed for Kalyana Lakshmi scheme

• Aadhar card of the girl

• Birth certificate of the girl

• Caste certificate

• Income certificate not more than half a year from the date of marriage

• Bank account of bride and mother of the bride

• Wedding card (optional)

• Bride’s photo

• Age proof certificate

• Marriage confirmation certificate

Incentives are given under this scheme

• Rs.51,000 were given by the government when the scheme was originally initiated in 2014

• Rs.75,116 were given by the government in 2017

• Rs.100116 were provided by the state government in 2018
