Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was started on January 22, 2015, by the Prime Minister of India from Panipat in Haryana. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is the combination of three different ministries that are Women and Child Development, Health & Family Welfare, and Human Resource Development. This scheme was launched to promote gender equality as well as to emphasize the implication of educating girls. The initial fund allocated to this scheme was Rs. 100 crore and target states that are included in it are Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Delhi.
It aims to reduce the child sex ratio image (CSR). This scheme is started by the central government as well as with a combination of three ministries. This scheme aims to decline low child-sex ratio initially in 100 districts throughout the country.

The launch of this scheme for Low child-sex rationAccording to census data, the Child Sex Ratio (CSR) was 933 girls per 1,000 boys in 2001, which dropped to 918 girls for every 1,000 boys in 2011 whose age is between 0-6 years. According to the report of UNICEF in 2012, India ranked 41st among 195 countries. According to the population census of India in 2011 shows that there are 943 females per 1000 males.
To stop crimes against women that are rising
There are a lot of crimes against women increasing day by day. These crimes may include female fetuses post ultrasonic testing and other forms of discrimination against girl infants. Crimes, as well as sex abuse, are on a constant high. In the year 2014, on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi gave a speech and emphasized on the purge of female feticide.

- The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme has put impact just in 2 years from its launch date. The sex ration in 2 years crossed up to 950 females per 1000 males.
- The number of women police officers also increased from 6% to 8.5%.
- There are a lot of women now who are joining their fields and careers of their own choices. These careers are armed forces, science, journalism, sports, wrestling, engineering as well as many others.

- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a national initiative that is implemented through a focused action in 100 selected districts which are low in Chile Sex Ration (CSR). These districts are chosen as per the census of 2011 which covers all the states as well as UTIs. All details are mentioned below:
- 87 districts/23 states (These are below the national average)
- 8 districts/8 states (These are above average but have shown declining trend)
- 5 districts/5 states (These are above average and have shown increasing trends)
- To flourish the initiative beyond the 100 selected districts, there are 61 additional districts have been chosen from 11 states as well as UTIs who's Child Sex Ratio is below 918.
- The PAN India Expansion of BBBP was started on March 8, 2018, which covered all the 640 districts as per the Census 2011.
Target Audience
There is no doubt that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative targets the entire country. Three different classifications have been made about the target audience for BBBP. These three classifications are mentioned below:
- Primary Groups: This group includes young as well as married couples, pregnant mothers, and parents.
- Secondary Groups: This group includes the youth of the country, doctors, in-laws, private hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centres.
- Tertiary Groups: This group includes the general people of the country like frontline workers, officials, religious leaders, voluntary organizations, media as well as women SHGs.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme has mentioned below. The candidates must have to fulfil all the conditions.
- The age of the girl child must be below the age of 10 years.
- There should be an account of a girl child under Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) in any bank that IS opened with the name of the girl child.
- NRIs girls are not eligible, so the Girl child should be an Indian to get benefits from this scheme.
How to apply?
There is a simple process to get enrolled under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao benefits. All the steps to apply for this scheme are mentioned below:
- At first, the beneficiary has to visit the bank or post office wherever this scheme is available.
- Now get the application form for BBBP/SSA as well as Fill all the details in the application form.
- The candidate has to fill the application form manually as well as to attach all the mandatory documents.
- After filling all the details and attaching the required documents with the application form, please submit it to the same bank or post office.
- The account must be opened with the name of the girl child.
- The candidate is allowed to transfer the account from one bank and post office account to another bank and post office account.

- Birth Certificate of the girl child that is issued by the hospital or a recognized government body is mandatory.
- For the identity proof Aadhaar Card and Ration Card of the Parents.

- Recent Passport size photograph of the girl child.
