Bihar government has taken a crucial step with the help of the Prime Minister to aid the needs of the farmers. The state has a majority of the population doing farming which is totally dependent on climate and weather. The farmers suffer a huge loss in production every year due to the climatic misfortune. To solve this massive problem of farmers of Bihar, the government will be providing them with financial benefits with the help of Bihar Fasal Bima Yojana. What is this Yojana?

The crops of farmers are dependent on nature, which can flip at any moment. Thus to provide them with surety and to back them up in case of natural calamities, the Bihar government will be providing Financial aid to the farmers with the help of this project named Bihar Fasal Bima Yojana. It is helping farmers by providing insurance coverage against the failure of crops due to uncontrollable factors.

Under this plan, the farmers will be provided with a fund of Rs.7500 per hectare, in case their expected production falls by or up to 20% and if it falls by more than 20%, the amount provided will be Rs.10,000 per hectare of the land they own.

What is the Purpose of the project? 

The Yojana aims at boosting the morale of the Bihari Farmers, so they continue farming without much stress. This will not only increase production in the state but will also make the farmers confident and self-dependent. Many times the crops get damaged because of floods, droughts, humidity and other climatic and weather mishaps. Government is focusing on helping those lakhs of farmers who suffer losses due to these calamities. Thus, to overcome these situations, the funds are provided to the farmers that will be directly credited to the farmer’s bank account in case of such losses.

Documents Required

Following are the requirements that need to be fulfilled to avail the benefits of The Bihar Fasal Bima Yojana:-

  • The Farmer should be a permanent resident of Bihar
  • Only those losses would be entertained that are caused due to natural calamities
  • The farmer must have a bank account so that the fund can be credited directly to his bank account
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Any Identity Card

  • Legal Documents for the farm field, to prove his authorization on that land

Self-Attested Documents:

For Landowners-

  • Land Possession Certificate 
  • Self-Declaration form or Manifesto

For non-owners of Land:

Important Instructions for the Documents:

  • Size of the photograph should be less than 50 KB
  • Identity cards (certified by Election Commission of India) should be less than 400 KB and should be in PDF format
  • The first page of Passbook should be less than 400 KB and should be in PDF format
  • Residential proof should be less than 400 KB and should be in PDF format

Number of Applications for Bihar Fasal Bima Yojana 

Any farmer who is fulfilling all the conditions for the Yojana, can apply for the scheme.

  • The total number of applications till date for the Yojana is 810070 (Kharif season 2019), 1150527 (Kharif season 2018) 
  • The applications related to wheat procurement alone was 7479
  • Application for the Rabi season (2018-2019) was 1754350

Advantages of Bihar Fasal Bima Yojana

The beneficiaries of the scheme will be only those farmers who have suffered losses due to climatic mishaps, like flood, drought, etc.

The farmers whose production has been effected up to 20% of their actual expected production, will be provided with Rs.7500 per hectare of the land they own. Any farmer with a loss of more than 20% of their expected crop production will be funded by Rs. 10,000 per hectare of the land they own.

The amount will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary. Thus, the armer should have a bank account, and it should be linked with his Aadhaar Card 

This project aims at making farmers self-dependent and confident. This will boost the production of crops for Bihar, which will, in turn, lead to the economic development of the state.

Those farmers who fulfil all the requirements and are willing to apply can follow these methods:

1. The farmer has to visit the authorised website and register himself on the online portal, i.e. The following page will emerge.

2. After clicking on the register option, the next page will pop up

3. After registering, you need to answer the question related to your Aadhaar Card’s procurement. Click Yes if you have one.

4. After clicking Yes, you will be redirected to another page, where you will have to submit your Aadhaar Card’s number.

5. After submitting your details, like your name and Aadhaar number, your application will be submitted to the portal.

This way, any farmer can apply for the scheme and utilize the advantages of it. 


A great initiative through the joint efforts of state and central government has led to crop security in the farmers. The insurance scheme which covers the failure of crops due to uncertain conditions is a great way to encourage the producers to do agricultural activities without having to worry much about external conditions that are out of their hand.
