Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) is a government scheme launched in 2015 by the honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. This scheme aims to provide power supply 24*7 to rural areas of India. This scheme is the replacement of the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana. This scheme focuses on feeder separation, strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution infrastructure in rural areas.

Features

The objectives for launching Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana are as follows:

  • To provide electricity in all villages around India.
  • To improve the distribution network and sub-transmission for enhancing the reliability and quality of the power supply in rural areas.
  • To reduce losses, it focuses on metering.
  • This scheme will be implemented by Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC). It will be the nodal agency.
  • Under this scheme, DISCOMs are eligible for financial assistance.

Components 

The components of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana are as follows:

  • Strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution of infrastructure in rural areas, including metering at distribution transformers, feeders and rural households.
  • Separation of agricultural and non-agricultural feeders facilitating judicious rostering of supply to agricultural & non-agricultural consumers in the rural areas.
  • Rural electrification, as per CCEA for completion of the targets laid down under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) for 12th and 13th Plans by subsuming RGGVY in Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) and carrying forward the approved outlay from RGGVY to DDUGJY.
