We all know that we need to reform the societal structure for women that exist all over the world. There are a lot of schemes launched by the Government of India to contribute to the welfare of the female population. In these schemes, some were launched by the Central Government and some by the state government. These all schemes were launched with a definite objective to make women of the country secure and self-dependent. Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana is one of them; this scheme is the most efficient scheme launched by the West Bengal State Government. Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana was working under the Department of Women Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal from 8th March 2013. This scheme will provide cash to improve and progress the status of the girl child. 

The Objectives of Kanyashree Scheme

Objectives of the Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana are mentioned below:

  • This scheme’s main motive is to provide the proper structure and to refine the status of the girl child. 
  • This scheme was launched to make life better of socio-economically disadvantaged families with a girl child.
  • This scheme will also help to eradicate the concept of early marriage and also make a law to ensure that every family must follow the minimum age of marriage of a girl child.
  • To encourage the families to make their girls educate this scheme is providing educational scholarships. 
  • Under this scheme, the girls will get scholarships for Secondary and Higher Secondary classes.
  • This scheme will also motivate girls to take part in sports and other vocational training programs.
  • The financial assistance provided under this scheme for the empowerment of the adolescent girls will be transferred into the bank account with the girl’s name.
  • This will also help the girls to make their own decision to utilize this money.
  • This scheme will help reinforce the ideas of delayed marriage as well as increase awareness about education.
  • It will increase the median age of birth by civilizing Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR).
  • This scheme will enhance social power and augment behavioural change in the community.
  • Under this scheme, the longer the girl remains in school, the more they use the chance to gain knowledge that will help become economically independent. 
  • The education and knowledge which she will get from school be helpful for her welfare throughout her life.

Components

There are two main components under the Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana:

Rs.1000/- as Annual Scholarship

The scholarship amount was capped at Rs.500/ in the year 2013-14- and which is now Rs.1000. This amount will be provided to unmarried girls whose age is between 13 to 18 years.

  • The girl who is studying in classes VIII to XII,
  • She must be pursuing education from any Government recognized school or institution,
  • Studying in any open school,
  • Pursuing vocational courses or sports training.

A one-time grant of Rs.25000

This assistance is provided to the girls who have turned 18 at the time of getting registered under the scheme. 

  • Enrolled in Government recognized regular/open school
  • Pursuing any vocational training or any other course
  • Pursuing sports training
  • Living in a home which is registered under the J.J. Act 2000

Eligibility Criteria

The Kanyashree Yojana has some eligibility criteria which the applicant must have to fulfil to get enrolled under this scheme. Details about the eligibility criteria are mentioned below:

  • The girl must be unmarried and Residents of West Bengal state.
  • The girl whose age is between 13 to 18 years and her family’s annual income is not higher than Rs.1,20,000/- can apply for this scheme.
  • If the girl has lost his father and mother or physically challenged, then this income criterion does not apply to her.
  • The girl must be regular students pursuing education or vocational as well as sports training.
  • The girl age between to 19 years from Child Care institutes enlisted under J.J.Act of 2000,
  • The girl who has completed the age of 18 years on or after 1st April 2013 is eligible for a one-time grant amount,
  • The scheme aims to reach out to approximately 18 Lakh girls for annual scholarships every year as well as about 3.5 lakh girls for a one-time grant amount every year.

Documents Required

The applicants have to submit some required documents to complete the registration process. The list of documents necessary for Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana to be submitted is mentioned below:

  • The applicant has to submit a Birth Certificate of the girl child,
  • Declaration statement which claims that the beneficiary is unmarried,
  • Proof of annual family income that is below Rs.1, 20,000/-,
  • Disability Certificate if the beneficiary is unmarried.
  • Declaration Statement by the Guardian if the father and mother of the girl child are deceased along with the Death certificate of the deceased parents.
  • Bank passbook with the name of the girl child to get the amount.
  • Address as well as Bank account number.

The Registration Process

The girl child who is eligible for the Kanyashree Scheme must have to follow the simple process to get registered under the scheme and to get the benefits. All the process is mentioned below:

1. The applicant must have to visit Government recognized school or institution to get the application form.

2. You will get two forms 1st is K1 form that is to be filled for annual scholarship and 2nd is K2 form that is to be filled for a one-time grant.

3. Get a bank account which is opened in the name of the girl child who wants to get benefits.

4. The bank account in the name of the girl is mandatory to be opened because the entire financial amount will be deposited in the account of the girl child.

5. Now you have to attach all the required documents. 

6. All the documents mentioned above, you have to attest and then submit along with the filled application form.

7. The applicant has to submit the application form along with the required documents to the Head Teacher of the school/institution.

8. Then they will sign and stamp the application form and documents.

9. An acknowledgement will be provided to you that might be required for future formalities.

How to Check the Application Status?

The applicants have to follow the steps to check the application status for Kanyashree scheme:

1. At first log-in to the Kanyashree scheme’s official Portal.

2. Now click on the “Track Application” option.

3. Now you will be asked some details like Year, Type of scheme, Applicant ID and DOB. 

4. After filling all the required details, click on the “Submit” button. And you will see the application status for your form.

5. When your application is approved, the benefiting money gets deposited into the bank account of the applicant.
