Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) 2020

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana or PMGKY was launched in 2016 by the Government of India. This scheme was introduced for the welfare of poor people.

People who fall under this scheme will be provided money which will be directly transferred to their bank accounts and food items which will be provided to them in the ration stores. Benefits of PMGKY

On 26th March 2020, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that relief packages will be provided to the poor people under the PMGKY scheme. She discussed the benefits of PMGKY and who will be benefited by this scheme.

5 kg free wheat/rice

The ration cardholders will be provided with an additional 5 kg of wheat/rice for free for the next 3 months. 

1 kg free pulses

The ration cardholders will also be provided 1 kg of free pulses for the next 3 months.

Hike for MGNREGA Worker

The workers who are registered under MNREGA will get a hike of ₹20. Earlier they used to get 182 after the hike of 202.

Corona Warriors

The Government of India will provide 50 lakh of medical insurance to the healthcare workers like the doctors, nurses and others.

PM Kisan Yojana

Farmers who are waiting for the next due instalment and those who didn’t get any instalment under PM Kisan Yojana will get their instalment within the first week of April 2020.

Employees Provident Fund (EPF)

The government is going to pay the EPF for both employees and employers. This is for those companies where there are less than 100 employees and have a monthly income of less than ₹15,000. The government will pay 24% of it for the next 3 months.

The extra benefit for widower/old age/disabled pensioner

Poor widowers, senior citizens, disabled persons who get pension will also be provided ₹1000 per month by the government for the next 3 month. The money will be credited to their bank accounts directly. This step is taken by the government to help the needy during the lockdown.

Jan Dhan Yojana account holder

The government will provide ₹500 per month to women who have Jan Dhan accounts for the next 3 months. The amount will be transferred to their bank account directly.

Ujjawala Yojna

Under the Ujjawala Yojana scheme, the government will provide free gas cylinders to the ujjwala gas holders for the next 3 months.

Self Help Group (SHG)

The SHG workers will get an extra 10 lakh collateral loan as announced by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Earlier, they used to get 10 lakh, now it’s a total of 20 lakh. Under this scheme, they don’t have to provide any security. 

PF Scheme

The PF scheme will be regulated because of the COVID-19 situation. It will allow the non-refundable advance of 75% of the amount standing credit to the user or wages for 3 months, whichever is lower.

Construction worker

The government has around 31,000 Cr fund for the welfare of the construction workers. It will help the daily workers during the lockdown as they won’t be able to work during this pandemic situation.
