Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is started to help the women who are below the poverty line and this initiative was started by the Indian Central Government. The scheme was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1st May 2016 from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. PM Ujjwala Scheme aimed to provide the help of five Crore LPG connections to the poor families of the country. This scheme provides an LPG connection to the poor families as well as Rs.1600 support with each connection provided. The fund of 8000 crores is allocated for this scheme by the government.

The main motive of this scheme was to provide clean fuel to the BPL families in the form of gas connections as well as to those families who are not able to access clean fuel. The scheme will also benefit the women of the country as well as protect their health that was worsening due to smoke that was coming out from the unclean fuel. With each new gas connection support of Rs.1600/- is also provided. Through this scheme, the beneficiary is also able to avail loan on replenishing or LPG Stove. Main Motives

The main purpose of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme is to provide clean fuel to the BPL families as well as women who are below the poverty line. This scheme will benefit those women who use unclean fuel for cooking. The scheme will replace unclean fuel with the LPG. The aim of this scheme was to provide a 5+ crore LPG connection around the country. Some main objectives of this scheme are given below:

  • To reduce the fatalities that occur from unclean fuels used for cooking.

PM Ujjwala Yojana Eligibility Criteria

The free LPG connection, as well as benefits of this scheme, will be provided to the beneficiary only when he will complete the entire eligibility criteria and conditions of the scheme.

The eligibility required for the selection of beneficiary is given below:

  • An adult woman from the BPL family who does not have an LPG connection.
  • The age of the woman must be more than 18 years.
  • The beneficiary should be officially from India.
  • The connection will be provided only to the women of the family.
  • Make sure if you are taking benefit of this scheme that you are not allowed to take benefit of any other similar scheme.
  • The entire verification process of the beneficiary will be done from the SECC 2011 list.

The BPL households verified from the following seven categories:

  • SC/ST households
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 
  • Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY)
  • Forest dweller
  • Most Backward Classes 
  • Tea as well as Ex-Tea Garden Tribes
  • People living in river Islands

Documents Needed

If you want to take benefit of this scheme you must have to provide all the required documents while applying for the scheme. If you are submitting the form without valid documents then your application would be rejected and you will not be able to get any benefit.

The required document for the process is given below:

  • The beneficiary must have a BPL Certificate that was issued by the Municipality Chairman or Panchayat Pradhan.
  • The beneficiary must have one photo identity proof, for example, Aadhaar Card or Voter ID.
  • The beneficiary must have a BPL Ration Card.
  • Aadhaar no. of family members is also necessary.
  • Latest passport-size photo.
  • Caste certificate of the beneficiary and address Proof.
  • 14 points assertion in the preferred format as well as duly signed by the beneficiary.
  • Jandhan bank account details and bank passbook of the beneficiary.

Amendment of PMUY

The government made some changes to the PMUY scheme in the year 2018. The changes were made in the guidelines of the scheme. At first, the scheme was started to benefit 5 crore BPL families of the country but after revision, the government announced 8 crore BPL families will be benefited through this scheme in 2019-2020. To complete the motive of this scheme the government started the Extended Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and this extended version was launched with few new guidelines.

The beneficiary is able to apply offline for new gas connections under the PMUY scheme.  As in current, there is an online facility also available to fill the form for this scheme. The beneficiary can submit the form online by visiting the official website of the scheme.

The complete process to register for PM Ujjwala Yojana 2020 is given as below:

Step 1 - Application Form

The beneficiary is able to get the application form in Hindi or English language from the nearest LPG dispenser or by visiting the official website. One can obtain an online application form by simple steps that are mentioned below.

2. Now click to the “Download Form” button that was given on the homepage.

3. Now you will see the links for all types of forms are available.

4. Now click on “Ujjwala Form English” or “Ujjwala Form Hindi” as per your choice.

5. The application form will be downloaded in pdf format.

6. Now download the application form pdf as well as take a printout of it to fill carefully.

Step 2 - Filling details

Once you will get the application form you have to fill all the details correctly that are asked in the form. These details may include:

  • The name of the beneficiary
  • AHL Tin No.
  • The age and address of the beneficiary
  • Signature of the Applicant
  • Applicants can select for EMI selection for LPG stoves or first replenish as well as both

Step 3 - Submit the Application Form

After filling all the details carefully and correctly the applicant has to submit the form at the LPG Distributor office. While submitting the application form the Aadhar number of the woman as well as all family members is also necessary. With this, some more details are also necessary to submit (like Jan Dhan Bank Account, and detailed address).

Step 4 - Issue of LPG connection

Once the process of application will be completed and submitted successfully the further process will start. After all details as well as documents verification the connection will be issued to the beneficiary.
