Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit scheme that is launched by the government of India. Under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana a cash incentive of Rs. 5,000 will be provided to pregnant women as well as lactating mothers. The incentive under the scheme will be provided to the first living child of the family for completing the specific maternal and child health conditions.
The Objectives
The government running this scheme to fulfil the following objectives:
- This scheme will provide financial support to the family of pregnant women so that the woman can take sufficient rest before and after the delivery of the first living child.
- Under this scheme a total sum of Rs. 6,000 will be provided on an average to the woman.
- The 5000 will be provided under this scheme and the remaining cash incentive of Rs. 1,000 will be provided under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) after institutional delivery.
- This scheme will also help to improve the health-seeking behaviour of pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Targeted Beneficiaries
- The women who are in regular employment with the Central or State Government or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) are not able to get benefits from this scheme otherwise all pregnant women and lactating mothers can avail the benefit of this scheme.
- The applicant who is already taking advantage of a similar programme under any law is also not eligible for this scheme.
- All the pregnant women and lactating mothers can avail of the benefit of this scheme that has their pregnancy on or after January 01, 2017, for the first child in the family.
- The date and stage of pregnancy for a woman will be counted from her Last Menstrual Period (LMP) date, as mentioned in the Mother as well as Child Protection (MCP) card.
Incentive Disbursal Structure
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, the beneficiaries can get a cash incentive of Rs. 5,000 in three instalments. The recipients have to follow the simple process to get their cash incentive under this scheme.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidates have to fulfil the eligibility criteria to avail the benefits of this scheme. The details about the eligibility criteria are mentioned below:
- All pregnant women whose age is 19 years or above can get benefits under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
- All pregnant women except those women who are employees of central or state government as well as public sector undertaking.
- The pregnant woman is allowed to register her pregnancy in approved health centres within 150 days from the last menstrual period.
- The woman who does not have an authorized Mother-Child Protection (MCP) card is not able to get the benefits under this scheme.
- MCP cards are a must to get first and second instalments.
The Registration Process
The candidate who wants to avail the benefits of this scheme must have to apply within 730 days from the date of her Last Menstrual Period (MP). The Last Menstrual Period registered in the MCP card will be considered as the Date of Pregnancy under the scheme.
The offline process to get Maternity Benefits under PMMVY
The candidates are allowed to enroll offline under this scheme to avail benefits. To apply offline for the scheme steps are mentioned below:
1. The eligible women who want to get benefits under this scheme must have to visit at an Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or at an approved (government) health facility to register for the scheme. The candidate can also visit the implementing department for that particular State or Union Territory. The candidates must have to register within 150 days of the Last Menstrual Period.
2. The candidate can also get an application form the AWC or approved health facility free of cost as well as even be able to download from the official website of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
3. The candidates are advised to get an acknowledgement of registration from the implementing authority for future references.
4. The candidates are allowed to get the 2nd instalment of the incentive when the woman is pregnant for 6 months.
5. For this candidate has to give a copy of the MCP card which will show at least one Antenatal Check-up (ANC) and a copy of acknowledgement slip Form. The 2nd instalment will be claimed by the candidate post 180 days of pregnancy.
6. To claim the 3rd instalment under this scheme the beneficiary is required to submit the duly filled up Form 1C with a copy of childbirth registration, ID proof, and MCP card to show that the child has acknowledged the first cycle of vaccination of CG, OPV, DPT as well as Hepatitis B.
7. The candidate is also mandatory to submit a copy of acknowledgement slip Form 1A and Form 1B.
8. The beneficiary has to submit a copy of the Aadhaar card at this stage except for some states that are Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), Assam, and Meghalaya.
The online process to avail Maternity Benefits under PMMVY
To fill the application form online for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana steps are mentioned below:
1. At first, the candidates have to visit the official login portal.
2. After visiting the official website, you have to log in into the PMMVY software with the help of scheme facilitator’s (AWC or approved health facility) login details.
3. After this, you have to click on the option ‘New Beneficiary’ for registering under the scheme.
3. Now you have to enter all the required information in the Registration Form that is also known as Application Form 1A.
4. You have to follow the instructions provided in PMMVY CAS User Manual for filling the application form for this scheme.
5. The candidates have to log in again after 6 months of pregnancy, and then you have to click on the ‘Second Installment’ button.
6. After this still, you have to fill the application form that is also known as Form 1B.
7. The candidates are advised to read all the instructions given in the user manual.
8. The candidates will get the third instalment under this scheme when the birth of the child is done and the completion of his/her first cycle of immunization of CG, OPV, DPT as well as Hepatitis B.
9. After the end of this process, you have to log in into the PMMVY CAS software and then click on the ‘Third Installment’ button and fill Form 1C to get the third instalment.

Case of Miscarriage or Still Birth
In the case of a miscarriage or stillbirth, the candidates are allowed to get the remaining instalment that will help them for a future pregnancy. If just after receiving the 1st instalment of cash incentive, the woman has a miscarriage, then she would only be eligible for receiving 2nd as well as 3rd instalment for a future pregnancy.
Case of Infant Mortality
In the case of infant mortality, candidates are not allowed to get any benefit under the scheme if she has already got all the instalments of the maternity benefit under PMMVY.
