Overview
Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) was launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in the year 2017. The Central Government of India is funding this scheme by using the "Senior Citizens Welfare Fund", and the system is being implemented by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO), which is a PSU under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
This scheme has been created to help the senior citizens who fall under the category of below poverty line (BPL), by giving them physical aids and to provide them with Assisted-living devices.
It aims at providing physical aid to the senior citizens of India who fall under the BPL category, i.e., and the people who are above the age of 60 years and who have a BPL card which has been issued by the respective authority of the country. RV will take place in selective cities, and all the senior citizens will get free living aids and other physical devices which they would need, to survive.
Background
By the year 2050, it is expected that India will have around 300 million senior citizens, which makes a fifth of the total population of the country. Keeping that in mind, the Government is set to ensure that the needs of the senior citizens are taken care of and that they do not suffer. A significant part of the senior citizens fall under the BPL category, and hence the Government needed to come up with a scheme that is meant to help them.
Eligibility Criteria
- One should be a senior citizen, which means that their age should be above 60 years.
- The senior citizens should be from the BPL category.
- Senior citizens should be having specific problems due to their age, such as low vision, hearing problems, any disability, etc.

Features
The senior citizens will be provided with the required devices, free of cost.
If one person is diagnosed with several problems, he/she will be equipped with suitable methods and physical aids for each of those particular problems.
The maintenance of the Aids & Assisted Living Devices with is taken care of by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO).
A committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner or the District Collector, under the State Government or UT will take care of the count of beneficiaries in every district.
It will be made sure that at least 30% of the senior citizens being benefitted under RVY are women.
The State Government or the Union Territories will have the right to access all the BPL and Old Age Pension Data, to know the record and identify the senior citizens who fall under the BPL category.
All Physical Aid and other devices will be given to the senior citizens via camps.
