Overview

Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY) is social security for the unorganized sectors of West Bengal. The Government Of West Bengal started this scheme in the year 2017. 

It is a scheme that was started by the Government Of West Bengal to provide social security to the unorganized sector of West Bengal. The aim of SSY is to offer social security to all the people of the unorganized sector all across the state. It is considered that the workers are the people who drive the economy.

Bandhu Scheme Under Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY)

Bandhu scheme is made for the communities of Scheduled Caste (SC) all across West Bengal. Bandhu scheme is a pension scheme for the Scheduled caste people who do not get any benefits under any other plans. Bandhu scheme aims at providing services to 21 Lakh Scheduled Caste people. 

This scheme will provide a pension of Rs. 1000/- per month to all the old-age people who fall under the category of Scheduled caste

Rs. 2,500/- crore has been allotted for the Bandhu scheme by the Government, for the financial year of 2020-21. 

Jai Johar Scheme Under The Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY)

Jai Johar Scheme is made for the people who belong to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Adivasi community all over West Bengal. The ST people who do not fall under any other schemes can benefit from Jai Johar Scheme. 

This scheme aims to provide benefits to 4 Lakh people under the ST category and the old-age people who are above the age of 60 years will get Rs. 1000/- per month, in the form of a pension. 

An amount of Rs. 500/- crore has been allotted for the Jai Johar scheme for the financial year 2020-21, by the Government. 

Bina MulyaSamajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY)

Free of cost benefits have been given to the workers, building construction workers, transport, and workers of the unorganized sector under the Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY).

  • Money for higher education etc.

The workers under the Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY) get Provident Fund as well. These workers deposit Rs. 25/- in the form of a monthly contribution and the Government Of West Bengal deposits Rs. 30/- per month. 

Hence, the workers can withdraw the total amount along with other benefits that they get.

The finance minister of the Government Of West Bengal also stated that Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY) would be put to an end and Bina MulyaSamajik Suraksha Yojana will replace it. 

Under this, the Government will contribute Rs. 25/- as well as Rs. 30/-. 

Hence, the workers won't have to pay for anything. They will get free of cost benefits of the Provident Fund.

ChaaSundari Under SSY

There are a total of 370 tea gardens in West Bengal. There are approximately 3 lakh permanent workers who are working in this industry. There are 50% of female workers, and most of them are from the tribal communities.

The Government Of West Bengal has started distributing rice at a rate of Rs. 2/- per kg for all the tea garden workers. Moreover, the Government Of West Bengal has taken several initiatives such as-

  • Electricity
  • Medical facilities
  • Mid-day meal scheme etc.

Under ChaaSundari, the Government Of West Bengal will offer funds to all the permanent and homeless workers of tea gardens for the construction of houses in their name. The Government Of West Bengal has allocated a total of Rs. 500/- crore for the financial year 2020-21 

HasirAlo Under SSY

The Government Of West Bengal has an aim to make 100% electrification all over West Bengal. The Government has started providing electricity at affordable prices for all the people of the poor section of the society. However, the poorest people are still not able to afford it. 

With that in mind, the Government Of West Bengal has created HasirAlo for such poor people who do not afford to pay their electricity bills. The lifeline consumer, whose quarterly electricity consumption does not exceed 75 units, gets free electricity by the Government. 

An approximate of 35 lakh families will get the benefits of this scheme. A total of Rs. 500/- crore has been allotted for this scheme for the financial year 2020-21 by the Government.

Eligibility Criteria For Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY)

  • People who are aged between 18 to 60 years and who are employed and self-employed unorganized workers 
  • The construction workers for Building etc.
  • Other construction workers who work for the West Bengal Building
  • Workers who work under Brick Kiln, Stone breaking and crushing
  • All the transport workers who are registered under the social security scheme
  • The workers who are registered under the Provident Fund Scheme. They are required to register to take the benefits.
