National Transgender portal

Transgender people can now apply for certificates and identification cards through a national portal initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Transgender people would be able to upload an affidavit declaring their gender, which will serve as the basis for their identification certificates, which will be issued by district magistrates. They will also be able to register their complaints and contribute to the development of a collective database through the portal.

What is national transgender portal?

Another initiation for transgender people has been organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Through this initiative, the Union Minister for Social Justice, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, has launched the National Portal for Transgender Persons. The government will provide transgender people with an ID card and a certificate.

This initiative is a great step forward on the part of the government because it gives transgender people across the country a sense of belonging. Furthermore, this initiative aids a segment of these citizens in being eligible for various government-sponsored welfare programmes.

Objective of the portal

The platform allows people from the group to come forward and get Transgender Certificate and Identification Cards as per their “self-perceived identity” which is an important provision of The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

Major benefits
